Wedi El Kebir West, which includes the complex of wetlands of Guerbes Sanhadja in the coastal Constantine center (Skikda region), is a site with significant water potential, where the vulnerability of surface water is linked to the industrial, agricultural and environmental context. Urban Algeria's rivers have become real dumping grounds, carrying all kinds of liquid and solid waste. This has resulted in a degradation of water quality. Socio-economic development and rapid urbanisation have had a negative impact on the quality of water resources, so surface water pollution continues to pose a serious problem for humans and their environment. However, uncontrolled domestic and industrial discharges, the intensive use of fertilisers in agriculture, as well as the haphazard exploitation of water resources, lead to chemical changes in water that can make it unfit for consumption.

The Central Constantinian Coast (Skikda) has several important rivers, including a permanent flow; it has a fairly dense hydrographic network of more than 4200 km. These rivers flow from the different mountain ranges and end up in the Mediterranean. The chemical quality of the region's water is assessed by the nitrate and chloride content of the wadi water.

The present study is based on the physico-chemical study of water of wadi El kebir West more precisely the region of Benazouz in Skikda where we sampled surface water in the area, we compare the results between them and with Algerian standards. The results obtained do not deviate from the Algerian systems, and it can be said that the surface water studied in the region of wadi El kebir West of the Benazouz region is adequate for different uses.
